Holy Communion at Cedar Grove UMC

Did you know….. You do not have to be a member of our church or even be a Methodist in order to receive communion? The Methodist church believes….”The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ’s love and to lead a new life of peace and love, as the invitation to the table says.” This is an open invitation to any person who wishes to learn about the Lord! Only that person can decide if he or she wants to take communion. The Lord’s Table is made ready at Cedar Grove UMC on the first Sunday of every month. The only exceptions to this is when we meet jointly with our sister church, Faith Community United Methodist Church in Bayville for special services; when our Pastor is not available; or when severe weather puts our members at risk to drive and a decision is made to cancel a service.

On September  3rd, 2017, we will have a service at 11am, however, communion will not be served. We will be joining in a communion service with Faith Community UMC on Sunday, September 10th at 11am to be followed by fellowship and a pot luck lunch.

If you have any questions or comments, please submit them on our contact page on our website, or speak with Pastor or one of our Trustees. Thank you and we hope to see you in church!!

Clothing Bin Helps Many!

We have a clothing bin to collect the clothing you no longer want or need. Please bring any of your clothes in plastic bags that are cleaned and in decent condition without rips, tears, broken zippers or missing buttons and deposit them in the bin in the parking lot of Fellowship Hall to the left as you enter the lot. These clothes are sent to various places around the world and distributed to those who need clothing but are not able to afford them or have little to no access to stores that sell clothes. We have been assured that items deposited are not shredded and used for rags or stuffing. You may include any type of clothing, shoes, boots or coats, jackets and sweaters. Please DO NOT leave any housewares, toys, or other items from your home or business. It is for clothing only!

In addition, the church receives a small stipend from the organization collecting clothes which helps us continue the mission of our church – to spread the word of God and good news of Christ! Thank you all for helping us to help others! Spread the word and tell your neighbors about our bin!

Welcome to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church of Toms River NJ!

This is the post excerpt.

Cedar Grove United Methodist Church of Toms River NJ is one of the oldest churches in Toms River that has been in continual service to the community since the mid 1800s. Although small in physical size, the congregation consists of faithful members with deep-seated roots in the local area. Many families have ancestors who had established residence long before the church was formally formed.

The church was formerly known as the Methodist Episcopal Church at Cedar Grove and was incorporated on January 10, 1853. In addition to the church building, a fellowship hall was built to accomodate classes, activities and social gatherings. The current building stands on the site and is used on a frequent basis.

The grounds of the church are also sacred as home to its’ own cemetery. The Cedar Grove Cemetery was formerly named the Applegate Cemetery established around 1800 by Joseph Applegate, a farmer with land in the area of Bay Avenue and Cedar Grove Road. The grave markers indicate that many buried there were soldiers in the Revolutionary War period. The grounds continue to be maintained by members of the Applegate family.
